Strait-laced Gwen Ashton is sent to Italy by her grandfather on a fool’s errand—to find a picture of her grandmother he was forced to leave behind during World War II. But Gwen is not fooled. She knows her grandfather is just trying to kick her out of her rut and put some distance between her and her staid fiancé, Carl. But her grandfather refuses to come to their wedding unless she goes. So, despite Carl’s unanticipated irritation, and entirely anticipated misgivings, Gwen heads for Italy by herself. In a matter of days she meets the dashing Italian businessman, Paulo Rancini, who offers his help on her quest, and soon sweeps her off her feet and thrills her with his kisses. Confused by her tumult of emotions, Gwen wonders how she can possibly go back to Carl and their regulated, predictable life!
